AVACS Winter School

on Distributed Software Development Processes

The 2nd AVACS Winter School on Distributed Software Development Processes will be held Monday to Wednesday, November 24th-26th, 2008 at the Institute of Computer Science in Freiburg. The workshop is organized by the AVACS Technology Platform and will focus on many aspects of modern software engineering:

  • project management
  • design patterns
  • test-driven development
  • model-driven development
  • refactoring
  • design and coding guidelines
  • static analysis on code level / architecture level
  • ...

Since many of the software tools developed within the AVACS context are implemented by different persons located on different sites, the software development process becomes quite complex. We believe that the workshop is an excellent opportunity to learn more about distributed software development not only in general but also with a specific focus on AVACS related issues and thus provides practical help to further optimize the work done in AVACS.

The preliminary program contains three main blocks and is structured as follows:

  • Monday, 2008/11/24, 2 pm - 6 pm: Introduction / Overview
  • Tuesday, 2008/11/25, 9 am - 5 pm: Software engineering on the code level
  • Wednesday, 2008/11/26, 9 am - 5 pm: Software engineering on the architecture level

We are glad to present four excellent speakers all of them renowned experts in the field of software engineering but coming from different areas:

  • Dr. Detlef Fehrer (SICK AG)
  • Michael Hemmer (MPI Saarbrücken, CGAL Editorial Board)
  • Matthias Klose (Ubuntu, OpenOffice)
  • Bernhard Merkle (SICK AG)

They will provide talks, offer alternative approaches, and solutions as well as "hands-on tutorials" adapted to our specific project environment. Of course, there will be room for discussions.

The number of participants is limited to 25 which will be selected on a "first come, first serve" basis. If you are interested in participating, please send an email as soon as possible to Tobias Schubert (schubert _at_ informatik _dot_ uni-freiburg _dot_ de)
